David Janeway: Entry Point (LP and CD)

David Janeway’s first recording as a leader first released on LP (New Direction, 1986) and reissued on CD (New Direction 2016), features two sessions; one recorded in NYC with Bob Berg, Steve Berrios and Lee Smith and in Detroit with another stellar band featuring Marcus Belgrave on trumpet. The album features Janeway’s compositions that display a wide range from latin-jazz to mainstream. From liner notes: “Over all what you have in your hands is a product that has been carefully planned, thoughtfully nurtured and exceedingly well executed. It is, conceptually and musically, representative of that Detroit sound that has been so crucial to the general evolution of jazz.” Herb Boyd
